Twint & card payment on your website: costs and providers

Over six million people in Switzerland use Twint, and most online shops already accept it. If you sell online, run courses or ask for deposits, there’s almost no getting around it. What Twint and card payments cost, which providers are available, and what setting it up on your website costs.

The key points at a glance

  • Twint is standard: over 6 million users, around 900 million transactions in 2025, accepted by 86% of online shops.
  • Fees: according to the official price list, Twint costs 1.35% per payment online; cards through common providers cost around 2.9% plus CHF 0.30.
  • Setup: budget a one-off CHF 1,500 to 3,000 for Twint and cards on your website.

How online payment works

Between your website and the money in your account sits a payment service provider (PSP). It accepts the payment, checks it, protects against fraud and transfers the amount to you, minus fees. A PSP usually bundles several payment methods: Twint, Visa, Mastercard, Apple Pay, Google Pay, and often PostFinance and invoicing too.

For you, that means one contract, one integration with your website, one statement, instead of negotiating separately with every card issuer.

Fees compared

Payment methodTypical fee per paymentOn CHF 100
Twint (online)1.35% per Twint’s price list, plus provider fee depending on PSPfrom CHF 1.35
Cards Switzerland/Europee.g. Stripe: 2.9% + CHF 0.30CHF 3.20
Cards internationale.g. Stripe: 3.25% + CHF 0.30CHF 3.55

The exact prices depend on the provider, your turnover and the contract. Larger merchants often negotiate better terms. Some PSPs charge an additional monthly base fee, others only transaction fees. So always compare based on your expected turnover, not just the percentage.

Which provider fits?

Twint online is offered by, among others, Payrexx, Datatrans, Wallee and Stripe. The choice depends less on price than on your situation:

  • Small shop or bookings: a provider with simple payment pages and no base fee, that’s quick to set up.
  • International customers: a provider with many currencies and payment methods, such as Stripe.
  • Subscriptions and recurring payments: make sure the PSP supports recurring card payments. Twint has its own solutions for this, which not every provider covers.
  • Till in-store and online: some providers cover both with a single statement.

What setup costs

In our pricing calculator, integrating a payment provider is estimated at CHF 1,500 to 3,000. This typically includes:

  1. Advice on choosing a provider and support opening the account.
  2. The technical integration with your website or shop, including Twint and cards.
  3. Confirmation pages and emails after payment, matched to your design.
  4. Tests with real payments, refunds and abandoned purchases.
  5. Adding the payment provider to your privacy policy.

At the upper end are projects with subscriptions, deposits, multiple currencies or a connection to accounting software.

Security and everyday use

No card data on your server: with a PSP, customers enter their card details directly with the provider. Your website never sees them. That keeps the card industry’s strict security requirements (PCI DSS) manageable for you.

Refunds are triggered in the provider’s dashboard with a few clicks, including for Twint. Payouts land in your account daily or weekly, depending on the provider. Plan for a few days’ delay at the start.

Every extra step in the checkout process costs you sales. Twint on the phone is often the shortest path to payment.
